DEI Awards | Cecilia & Fedel

It is with great joy that Hope Services recognizes our very first DEI Champion Award honorees—Fedel Sanchez and Cecilia Osuna. These extraordinary individuals lead with heart, compassion, and commitment to inclusion.
Cecilia is more than just a leader — she is a bridge-builder, a culture-sharer, and a relentless advocate for inclusivity. Through her efforts, she has helped make our community not only more diverse but also more connected, more understanding, and more human.
One of Cecilia’s most impactful contributions has been ensuring that Spanish Language and Literature classes are offered — a simple yet powerful step that has opened doors to communication, education, and cultural appreciation for so many. Thanks to her advocacy, individuals of all backgrounds now have the opportunity to engage with and celebrate the richness of Spanish culture, language, and heritage.
“These initiatives not only give clients the chance to see themselves represented but also promote learning and understanding across all backgrounds. I’m excited to see what Cecilia and the EMCC Whittier team do next!” says Hayley Malcolm.
Cecilia’s commitment to inclusion goes far beyond language and culture. In a beautiful and deeply human act of allyship, she took it upon herself to learn sign language — all in support of a speech-impaired participant. That one act speaks volumes. It tells us that for Cecilia, inclusion isn’t just a concept — it’s a way of life. It’s making sure that every voice is heard that every person is seen, and that no one is left behind.
Fedel, a true trailblazer in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, has made a lasting impact at Hope Services—especially in advocating for LGBTQ+ visibility.
“Fedel’s unwavering commitment to building a more inclusive, welcoming, and affirming
environment for all has made a profound difference. Through his leadership, he reminds us that inclusion is not just an initiative — it’s a way of showing love, respect, and dignity to every person.” says Allison Yant.
Thanks to Fedel’s leadership, Hope has proudly participated in the Silicon Valley Pride Parade,
with a strong and joyful presence that reflects our values. He has also been instrumental in
ensuring our consistent involvement with the Rainbow Chamber, representing Hope with
integrity and building important connections that strengthen our advocacy.
But Fedel’s impact doesn’t stop there. During Pride Month, he goes above and beyond —
collaborating with local agencies, planning meaningful events, and ensuring that everyone, from
staff to the individuals we serve, feels seen, heard, and celebrated.
At the Senior Center, his dedication shines through in every detail — from decorations that
brighten the space to recognition events that uplift the voices and identities of our LGBTQ+
community members. And now, he’s taking it a step further by exploring a special Pride Month
celebration tailored for those we serve, deepening our culture of inclusion.
During Pride Month, Fedel ensures that everyone feels seen, heard, and celebrated, both through events and his efforts at the Senior Center, where he uplifts the voices of LGBTQ+ community members.
We are grateful for their dedication and the incredible strides they continue to make in fostering a culture of inclusion at Hope Services!
