A Hopeful Partnership: Liza and Homero

For nearly four decades, Liza has been more than just Homero’s primary caregiver—she has been his fiercest advocate. She has worked tirelessly to ensure he receives the best care possible, navigating a complex network of services and resources. She plays a hands-on role in coordinating his care with the San Andreas Regional Center, his group home, and Hope’s Counseling Center.
Throughout this journey, Liza has found unwavering support from Hope’s team, particularly Anna Fernandez, Executive Director of Behavioral Health Services. “Whenever I run into an issue, I know I have a partner in Anna who is willing to listen to my concerns and help me find a solution. She has done so for decades now,” Liza shared.
In addition to Anna, Liza appreciates the dedication of Homero’s case manager and the entire counseling team, who provide crucial support in linking her to community resources. “Having done this for so many years, I know how important it is to have a team that truly understands what our population needs. Hope Services gets it.”
Through it all, one thing remains constant—Homero’s signature thumbs-up pose, a gesture that perfectly captures his resilient spirit and positive outlook. Whether he's competing in Special Olympics events, spending time at Hope’s Counseling Center, or simply sharing a moment with his care team, his beaming smile and enthusiastic thumbs-up are a reminder of the joy and strength that define his journey.
Liza’s story is a testament to the power of advocacy, community, and the dedicated professionals who make a lasting impact on the lives of individuals with complex needs. Through the compassionate care at Hope’s Counseling Center, Homero continues to receive the support he needs, and Liza knows she’s not alone in this journey.
