A Word of Hope During National Suicide Prevention Month
Dear Friends,
I hope this message finds you well. September marks an important month for all of us at Hope Services and for communities worldwide, as we come together to recognize Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. This is a time when we reflect on our commitment to promoting mental health, destigmatizing mental illness, and improving access to care for those who need it most.
As the Director of Mental Health Services at Hope, I want to take a moment to share a personal story that underscores the significance of this cause. I lost a dear friend during Christmas week. He had been battling depression for many years and tragically did not receive the help he needed in time. His passing hit us hard, and unexpectedly. It was a heartbreaking reminder that, all too often, we cannot see the struggles that others are facing.
This week, during Suicide Prevention Awareness Week, we have an opportunity to shine a light on this harsh reality that affects so many lives. It is a week to summon the courage to break the silence, to be willing to ask for help when we need it, and most importantly, to extend a helping hand to others. My team and I strive daily to eliminate the stigma associated with mental illness and the factors that can lead to someone taking their own life.
I am confident that observances like this play a pivotal role in building resilience within our communities. They grant us permission to ask for help and, more importantly, they cultivate hope. Hope is a powerful force that can guide us through dark times.
Hope Services is dedicated to providing resources, support, and care for those facing mental health challenges. Let’s work together to create a world where seeking help is met with compassion and understanding.
Thank you for your unwavering support of Hope Services and our shared mission.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Anna Fernandez, LMFT
