Shelly Hill – Bringing Joy and Culture to Hope Services

At Hope Services’ senior center, Shelly Hill is more than just an activity instructor—she’s a vibrant force of positivity, creativity, and community. After retiring from the county following a career in public health and criminal justice, Shelly sought a low-stress, high-reward environment. She found just that at Hope, where she’s spent the past two years leading engaging activities, organizing community clean-ups, and, most importantly, building meaningful connections with clients. Whether it’s crushing cans to fund group outings or hosting themed events (cowboy day, complete with bubbles and face paint, was a hit!), Shelly ensures every day is anything but boring.

A proud Choctaw, Cherokee, Black, and Irish woman, Shelly values cultural awareness and inclusion. She’s passionate about learning from others’ backgrounds and making everyone feel seen and respected—whether through food, shared stories, or simply listening with compassion. Her motto? “A human is a human.” Shelly’s light-hearted spirit, love for ribs and crab claws, and ability to bring smiles to others make her a beloved member of the Hope Services team and a wonderful example of DEI in action.
